The Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (BIT) was established in 1955, became an autonomous institution within Ranchi University in 1972, and subsequently attained the status of a deemed university in 1986. It is one of the leading institutions offering programmes at Under-graduate, Post-graduate as well as research levels in the area of engineering, technology, management and applied sciences at its main campus at Mesra as well as through its extension centres located within and outside the country.
