SCOTVEC Higher National Diploma (HND)
in Marine Engineering ( U.K) TWO YEAR COURSE |

This is a fully residential course conducted in collaboration with Glasgow College of Nautical Studies (GCNS) Scotland, partly at AMET and partly at GCNS.
AMET operates as an outreach site / branch of GCNS for the delivery of the SCOTVEC 1st year HND.
The course is approved by the Maritime and Coast Guard Authority (MCA), UK and the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). The Scheme of Training is also approved by the Merchant Navy Training Board and the Department of Transport (U.K.). |

Aim of the Course : |
|
| |
|
|
| |
To develop the competency required to enable the student to carry out his duties as an Engineer Officer in the Merchant Navy.
To satisfy Department of Transport(UK) initial training requirements for entry to DTP Class 4 Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineer Officer) Examination.
To provide the student with a qualification which will be accepted by the Department of Transport as giving exemption from parts of their Marine Engineer Officer Certificates of Competency at Class 2 and Class 1 levels. |

Training Pattern : |

| |
| Phase 1 |
39 weeks at AMET, Chennai, studying HND Units |
| Phase 2 |
36 weeks at GCNS, Glasgow, studying HND Units to qualify for the award ofHND in Marine Engineering. Success in the HND will qualify for exemptions from all academic subjects ofClass 2 and Class 1 Certificate of Competency. |
| Phase 3 |
6 months of Sea Service to qualify for entry to the DTP Class 4 Certificate of Competency (Marine Engineer Officer) Examination. |
| Phase 4 |
3 weeks preparatory course to
appear for Class IV Oral examination
Obtain Class IV Certificate

17 to 20 years at the time of entry. |
| Qualifications |
A pass in Plus Two (12th Standard) or its equivalent with minimum 40% aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry group in Class XII.Atleast 50% in English either in 10th or 12th standards. |
| Medical Standard |
Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms, with eyesight up to maximum +/- 2.5, with no colour blindness. |
