  SCOTVEC Higher National Diploma (HND) in Nautical Science ( U.K) TWO YEAR COURSE  
     
  This is a fully residential course conducted in collaboration with Glasgow College of Nautical Studies (GCNS) Scotland, partly at AMET and partly at GCNS. AMET operates as an outreach site / branch of GCNS for the delivery of the SCOTVEC 1st year HND. The course is approved by the Maritime and Coast Guard Authority (MCA), UK and the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA). The Scheme of Training is also approved by the Merchant Navy Training Board and the Department of Transport (U.K.).
 
     
  Aim of the Course :  
     
  To develop the competency required to enable the student to carry out his duties as a Deck Officer in the Merchant Navy.

To satisfy the Department of Transport initial training requirements for entry to Class 3.

To provide the student with a qualification which will be accepted by the Department of Transport as giving exemption from parts of their Deck Officer Certificates of Competency at Class 2 and Class 1 levels.
 
     
  Training Pattern :  
     
 
Phase 1 39 weeks at AMET, Madras, studying HND Units
Phase 2 38 weeks at GCNS, Glasgow, studying HND Units to qualify for the award of a HND in Nautical Science
Phase 3 20 months of Sea Service including 6 months bridge watch keeping to qualify for entry to the DTP Class 3 Certificate of Competency (Deck Officer) Examination.Success in the HND will qualify for exemptions from all subjects of the Class 2 Deck Officer Certificate of Competency Examination, except Ship Stability, Navigation and Engineering and Control Systems.
Phase 4 14 weeks OOW preparatory course at GCNS. Success in the HND will qualify for exemptions from all subjects of the class 2 Deck Officer Certificate of Competency examination, except Ship Stability, Navigation, and Engineering & Engineering Control Systems. MCA Written and Oral examination for OOW Certificate of Competency Award of UK OOW Certificate of Competency

  Entry Requirements for the Course :  
     
 
 Age Limit 17 to 20 years at the time of entry.
 Qualifications A pass in Plus Two (12th Standard) or its equivalent with minimum 40% aggregate in Maths, Physics and Chemistry group in Class XII. Atleast 50% in English either in 10th or 12th standards.
 Medical  Standard Candidates should be physically fit for sea service under standard norms, with eyesight 6/6 with no colour blindness.
 Entry Entry to the Course will be at the discretion of the Director of the Academy.
