Lloyds List had its origin in Edward Lloyd’s London coffee shop in 1734. It has since, been informing and guiding the thinking of business leaders and decision-makers the world over.

Two and a half centuries later, the culture that spawned the provision of expert, authoritative coverage of the global shipping markets is as strong as ever matter of fact much grown.

Today Lloyd’s List is not solely about shipping. It also provides in-depth coverage of marine insurance, offshore energy, logistics, global trade and law.

The Lloyds List Awards are today the benchmarks for Excellence within the shipping industry – internationally and regarded as most prestigious.

The 2007 Awards for the first time was conducted in India at the Taj Mahal Palace and Towers Hotel at Mumbai and was compered by Sir Mark Tully, the best known and respected British face in the country, who is also a Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardee.

The Training Award

This award marks the work of an individual, firm or institution that has shown initiative, leadership and imagination in the crucial area of training and education.

Fetooh Al Zayani, who is managing director business development - insurance and reinsurance, Qatar Financial Centre Authority.

Somesh Batra is the chairman of Yang Ming Line (India) Pvt. Ltd., and co-chairman of Seahorse Group of Companies, Mumbai.

Jamal Majid Bin Thaniah is group chief executive officer of Ports & Free Zone World, the holding company of DP World, Economic Zone World, P&O Ferries and P&O Maritime. He is also vice chairman of DP World.

Michael Drayton chairman of the Baltic Exchange.

Ms Eckelmann-Batistello is chairman of Contship Italia, managing director of Eurokai and president of the Federation of European Private Port Operators.

Sabyasachi Hajara, chairman and managing director of The Shipping Corporation of India.

D.T. Joseph is an Indian administrative service officer. From 1999 to 2003, he was director-general of shipping, India. For next three years, he was permanent secretary to government of India in the ministry of shipping which deals with major ports, shipping, shipbuilding, and inland water transport. Thereafter, he acted as adviser to the same ministry until July this year.

Ray Stewart joined India's Pipavav Shipyard as chief executive officer around a year ago and has been instrumental in putting the new yard on the map.
